In June 2021, Hagar staff conducted 3 training sessions which discussed preventing human trafficking, safe migration, child protection and positive parenting. These training sessions occurred in two districts across Cambodia and were attended by 77 local duty bearers. These included chiefs of villages, communes and districts, the District Administrator and representatives from the Police, Commune Council for Women and Children and Provincial of Women Affair.

One significant outcome from these training sessions was the actions that some of the leadership have already taken given their new knowledge. Some are planning strategies for how they will spread information about safe migration to their people and are working on implementing some prevention activities with regards to human trafficking and domestic violence.

At her speech during the training, one District Chief expressed:

“I am so grateful for Hagar’s presence in our communities and conduct training to our relevant people to start connection and working together to help migrant workers and vulnerable populations. Through our discussion, we will work together on setting up the focal person of 3 communes for responding to migrant issue in our communities. We will conduct face to face workshop, and awareness raising/campaign in our community through sound announcement. Thank you, Hagar for your support and collaboration.”

Such a quote illustrates the difference Hagar is making by running such training sessions. By empowering the leaders in local communities with the knowledge and skills they need, the Hagar team in Cambodia are confident that awareness about safe migration, trafficking and domestic violence will spread throughout vulnerable communities!
