Taken at fourteen

Sryeneang was trafficked across the border after being promised a job. Instead, she was forced to work as a domestic servant. She was isolated, unpaid, and not allowed to leave.
Two years later, a neighbour reported the situation. Authorities intervened, and Sryeneang was referred to Hagar for long-term recovery.
At first, she was quiet and withdrawn. With consistent care, trauma counselling and education support, she slowly began to recover.
Recovery takes time—but with the right support, it is possible.
Sryeneang worked with a legal advocate to safely share her experience with police, which contributed to a successful prosecution.
Today, she is back in school and is focused on completing her education. Her journey is ongoing, but she is safe, supported, and hopeful for the future.
