A Vietnamese man, trapped inside a remote scam compound in Myanmar, found a brief moment of access and sent a desperate message to Hagar’s general inbox in the United States. His email included one crucial detail, his pinned location. That message became the starting point of a rapid, coordinated response that would change thousands of lives.
Hagar immediately alerted colleagues in Vietnam, who contacted Vietnam’s National Hotline on Human Trafficking Prevention and pushed for urgent action. At the same time, Hagar Vietnam reached out to a trusted partner on the ground in Myanmar, the Karen Baptist Convention’s Youth for Karen Baptist Women’s Association. Despite unstable internet access and real danger, the team was able to reach the man and confirm his situation.
Just days later, on 20 October 2025, a large scale rescue led by the Myanmar Government freed nearly 2,000 people from the compound, including the man who reached out to Hagar. He is now safe, alongside 13 other Vietnamese nationals who are preparing to return home. Hagar’s Vietnam team will be there to meet them and provide care and support as they rebuild their lives.
This rescue happened because someone asked for help, and because Hagar was ready to respond. Every rapid action, every trusted partnership, and every survivor supported is made possible by people who stand with us.
Thank you for being part of the work that turns a cry for help into a chance at freedom.
