Lailima's Journey: Empowering Women Through Tailoring in Afghanistan

Lailima’s life in Afghanistan has been full of challenges. Changes in the country since 2021 affected her ability to continue her education and led to restrictions on women’s rights. Economic difficulties forced her into an abusive marriage to support herself and her family. She faced violence and hardship while trying to protect her younger siblings.

Hagar’s support was a turning point for Lailima. Through the Emergency Response and Recovery (ERP) and Restoring Lives through Livelihood (RLL) projects, she received counselling and psychological support to help her heal. Hagar also provided training in tailoring and business skills, giving her the opportunity to rebuild her life.

Today, Lailima leads the Dashte Barchi tailoring cooperative. The cooperative offers employment and economic opportunities to women. She is expanding the cooperative by exploring new markets and products. With Hagar’s ongoing support, Lailima has overcome many difficulties and now inspires other women to pursue their goals.
