Hy grew up with a rare autoimmune disorder. Because of her illness, she was often treated like an outcast. She carried the weight of rejection and isolation from a young age. Later, she married a man who abused her. Over time, Hy came to believe that the violence she suffered was what she deserved.
But one moment changed everything.
When her husband’s violence threatened their daughter, Hy made the hardest and bravest decision she could. She ran.
At a safe house in Hanoi, Hy found more than just shelter. She received medical care for her illness, safety from abuse, and the support she needed to begin healing. Through counseling, she started to confront the pain of her past. Slowly, Hy began to believe that she was worthy of respect, protection, and care.
The lies abuse had taught her no longer controlled her life. Hy found her voice again. She grew in confidence and strength, especially in her role as a mother. She came to understand a truth she had once been unable to see: there is never a reason for violence.
Today, Hy is studying medicine.
She uses her story to speak out so that others living in silence and fear know they are not alone. She is raising her daughter in safety and building a future where abuse no longer defines her life. In doing so, she is also offering inspiration to others who long for change and healing.
