Hao experienced significant challenges throughout her life. Growing up in a difficult family environment, and later experiencing domestic violence in her marriage, left her feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and uncertain about what the future might hold. Ongoing family conflict also affected her emotional wellbeing. At times, expressing what she was feeling and communicating her needs in a positive way was difficult.
When Hao connected with Hagar, she began receiving counselling and ongoing support from a case manager and psychologist. This support gave her space to understand more about the impact trauma had been having on her life and relationships.
Over time, Hao began developing new ways to manage stress and regulate her emotions. She learned how to communicate more effectively with the people around her and became more able to recognise her own strengths. As her confidence grew, she also began thinking differently about her future and what she wanted to build for herself.
One of the most significant turning points came when Hao decided to pursue baking as a new career path.
Taking that step required confidence that had once felt difficult to find. With encouragement and practical support, Hao began focusing more closely on her goals. Gradually, fear and self-doubt had less influence over her decisions, and she became more confident in imagining new possibilities for her life.
Her baking training became part of that new direction. It gave Hao something tangible to work towards while she continued strengthening the skills she had developed through counselling and support.
Today, Hao reports feeling less anxious and more in control of her life.
Her relationships are healthier, and she feels better equipped to communicate her feelings and respond to challenges in a positive way. She continues with her baking training and feels hopeful about where it may lead.
Challenges have not disappeared, but Hao now approaches them with greater confidence and a stronger understanding of herself. She has tools to manage difficult emotions, communicate her needs, and make decisions about the future she wants.
Hao’s story is a reminder that recovery can take many forms. It can mean understanding the effects of past trauma, rebuilding confidence, strengthening relationships, and finding the courage to pursue new opportunities.
For Hao, healing has also meant being able to look ahead.
With the right support, she has begun creating a future shaped less by fear and more by her own strengths, choices, and hopes for what comes next.
