Naome was a young girl from a remote province in northern Cambodia who had suffered severe abuse. With few local services to help her heal, she turned to Hagar for holistic support – care that her family and community could not provide.
“Hagar is like my parents. They always supported and cared for me until I grew up. It has been a blessing for me and all survivors.”
At Hagar, Naome received counselling, education, and emotional support. She was placed in a safe and nurturing environment where she could begin to rebuild her life.
“Hagar helped me experience the love of God. I grew up with a new life, a new purpose.”
Over the years, the consistent care from case managers and the wider Hagar community gave her confidence and resilience.
“My social worker worked with me and did not stop until I could stand by myself and see my value. That is why I studied Sociology.”
With a Hagar scholarship, Naome completed her university education in sociology and social work. During this time, she also began mentoring other girls in Hagar’s recovery programs, sharing the guidance and care she had received.
“I want to give back to Hagar and share everything I have learned. I want other survivors to know they are special and that recovery is possible.”
Today, Naome is a survivor leader and a trusted social worker. She has returned to Hagar as a staff member, walking alongside girls who are just beginning their healing journeys.
“What excites me most is that I can help other victims, just as Hagar helped me. Now I am a strong woman, and I can support others who feel they are not strong enough.”
Naome’s story is a powerful example of how Hagar’s holistic approach – counselling, education, mentorship, and nurturing care – transforms lives. Your support helps survivors not only heal but grow into leaders who can give back to their communities.
