Roqia is a young lady of 24 years.

The Women Federation in Kabul introduced her to Hagar’s Empowering Women for a Better Future project (EWBF). When her father died, Roqia, her mother and sisters had no option but to live in the home of her brother. Roqia and her mother and sisters face many challenges and strife as a result of living in her brother’s home with his wife. Her sister-in-law sees these women as a “burden.”

Roqia has a dream to work and be able to support her mother and sisters. She is very grateful to be a beneficiary of EWBF, where she has been empowered through the literacy classes, career counselling sessions, cohort group and hair dressing classes. She is now employed in a beauty salon and has a dream to one day own her own salon and be able to support her family.

Roqia is truly an example of what the support of Hagar donors, staff and our projects can achieve in a person’s life. Together, we have been able to provide Roqia the opportunities she needed to grow in her job ready skills, gain employment and start to dream about her future! Her life, and her family’s, will be very different going forward as a result.

Hagar pursues the highest degree of care and protection for each of its clients. To protect the identity of our clients, names have been changed and images do not necessarily represent the individual profiled.
