In June 2021, the team at Hagar Afghanistan helped facilitate and deliver a seminar for the Ministry of Women Affairs (MoWA) and other NGOs.  The purpose of this seminar was to build the capacity and understanding of these providers, who each provide care and protection for vulnerable women and children in Afghanistan in some way. 15 representatives from the following agencies were collectively present:

  • MoWA
  • Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs
  • Child Protection Action Network
  • WAW (Women for Afghan Women)
  • AWSDC (Afghan Women Skilled Development Center)
  • YHDO (Youth Health Development Organization)
  • VWO (Voice of Women Organization) in the Herat province (participated online)

Presentations on identifying, responding to and combatting human trafficking were delivered and ultimately, this training sought to increase the awareness and knowledge on key issues for these key care agencies to ensure the best care going forward. It was an honour for Hagar Afghanistan staff to share their knowledge of trauma informed care and expertise with representatives and this training is just one of several planned as part of a wider project called ‘Support to Shelter.’ During this training workshop, Hagar staff also provided input and guidance to MoWA regarding how to monitor the Women Protection Shelters that are run by NGO care providers.
